Pulteney Distillery

The Pulteney Distillery is a renowned Scotch whisky distillery located in Wick, Caithness, in the far north of Scotland. Founded in 1826 by James Henderson, it is one of Scotland’s most northerly mainland distilleries and has a rich maritime heritage, often referred to as the "Maritime Malt."

The distillery’s proximity to the North Sea has a significant influence on its whisky, imparting a distinctive briny and salty character. Old Pulteney is known for its unique stills, particularly the wash still, which lacks a traditional swan neck, contributing to the whisky’s full-bodied and complex profile.

The distillery produces a range of single malts, including the popular Old Pulteney 12-Year-Old, alongside older expressions and limited editions. Its whiskies are often described as having honeyed, citrus, and coastal notes, with a smooth yet rich finish.
