Islands
The Islands whisky region, although not officially recognised as a separate whisky-producing region by the Scotch Whisky Association, is often considered an informal sub-region of the Highlands.
This region includes the islands of Arran, Harris, Jura, Mull, Orkney, Shetlands and the Isle of Skye.
Flavour Profiles:
Peaty and Smoky: Some Islands whiskies, like those from Skye, are known for their pronounced peat smoke, similar to Islay whiskies but often with a unique maritime twist.
Maritime Influences: Many whiskies from the Islands exhibit briny, salty notes due to the proximity to the sea, adding a distinctive maritime character.
Diverse Range: The flavour profiles can vary widely from island to island, with some whiskies being sweet and malty, while others are smoky and spicy. This diversity makes the Islands region particularly interesting for whisky enthusiasts.
