Flavour Profiles:
Peaty and Smoky: Islay whiskies are famous for their intense peat smoke, which is a result of the peat used during the malting process. This gives them a distinctive smoky character.
Maritime Influences: Many Islay whiskies have briny, seaweed, and iodine notes, reflecting the island’s coastal environment.
Complexity: Despite their strong peat influence, Islay whiskies can be surprisingly complex, with layers of flavour including medicinal, earthy, and even sweeter notes.
