KOPKE 20YO TAWNY PORT
If time is defined by special moments, Kopke's history is written in exceptional years. These are years worth preserving, so they can be revisited and celebrated at any time. When years are drawn from Kopkeβs history, new history is created: the age on the label of this Kopke Port represents the average age of all the wines in the blend.
The grapes are hand-picked at their optimum ripeness, then destemmed, crushed, and transformed into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins, and aromas. This is enhanced by constant churning during fermentation, which takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature of 28-30Β°C until the desired level of sweetness (baumΓ©) is reached. At this stage, grape brandy is added to produce the final fortified wine. This high-quality wine is crafted by blending wines from different harvests to achieve the range of sensory qualities typical of aged tawny Port wines. Each of these wines has matured in oak casks for varying lengths of time, with the average age of the blend determining the age displayed on the label. The final blend reflects the distinctive characteristics imparted by the ageing process in wood.
