The Borders Single Malt Scotch Whisky – First Release is the inaugural single malt from The Borders Distillery in Hawick.

Launched in September 2026, this historic expression marks the first single malt distilled and released in the Scottish Borders since 1837. The 8-year-old single malt was crafted using entirely locally grown Borders barley sourced from ten nearby farms, then underwent a patient 72-hour fermentation before distillation in the site’s precisely configured copper stills. It was initially matured in first-fill American oak ex-bourbon barrels to establish a smooth, sweet core before undergoing a secondary maturation in premium Malmsey Madeira casks.

Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, this strictly limited global run of 10,000 bottles beautifully captures the distillery’s fruity, sweet, and aromatic house style.
